THE KIGER HORSE

“You would kill 10 good saddles horses to catch one of the duns on Beatty butte”

Quote from Brain Pfeiffer, Circle S Ranch, Cave Junction, OR

KIGER TRAITS

Kigers are the descendants of the original horses brought over by the conquistadors. They had remained genetically isolated for centuries in the rugged terrain of southeast Oregon, and because of this they retain many Spanish horse traits.

01.

Build

They are typically 13.2-15.2hh with a short back, an Iberian neck, and elegant head. They are muscular without being bulky, have full manes and tails, and have hard feet.

02.

Colour

Kigers almost always have dun factor colouration (grulla, classic dun, red dun) with minimal white markings. Primitive markings and bicolouring are common.

03.

Temperament

In terms of temperament, Kigers tend to be willing and loyal once trust is earned. They are typically highly intelligent, and have a strong sense of self-preservation. Kigers are versatile, athletic, and sure-footed mounts that are noted for their stamina.

04.

Disiplines

Kigers have excelled in many disciplines, including working equitation, dressage, endurance, and working cow to name a few.

Our Philosophy

We raise our horses in herd environment so that they learn all the necessary social skills and discipline to be good riding partners. We ensure our foals are halter broke and foot broke, though we wait until four years of age to start under saddle. We want our horses to have long and sound working lives. Our breeding stock are hand picked for exceptional temperament, conformation and movement. They receive top-notch care and nutrition so that they can produce the next generation of outstanding saddle horses.
